Located on the Ards peninsula, Corries is now a thriving retail and wholesale business. However, this was not always the case as the family run business has been built on hard work from humble beginnings. The person best placed to understand and explain how Corries came to be and the progression made over the years is Will Corrie, head of the Corrie clan. In a recent interview with journalist Ian Harvey, Will discusses the family and business:

“My father, Willie Corrie, had come to County Down from the family farm in Ballybay, County Monaghan, in 1949,” explains Will Corrie, the 2nd generation of the family to have lived at Drumhilla Farm, Crossnamuckley, which his father had bought.

“Curiously, the name Drumhilla originally came from our home farm in Ballybay, so we had brought a bit of our heritage with us.

“I was just a young man working here on the farm with my father, when a neighbour asked if we could have one of our beef animals slaughtered so she could buy half a side of beef.

“That was 1974 and dad had to find another customer to buy the other side of beef before he could go ahead with the suggestion.

“He found one and that was the very first time we moved into the world of meat retailing.

“After that, more and more people got to hear about what we were doing and asked for the same.

“By 1977 we had opened our first shop in a converted building just across the yard, the rest as they say is history.

“We have invested heavily and built us a successful family meat and food business over the years and we now have three sons, William, Gareth and Richard all deeply involved.”

We now farm a large number of cattle at the home from across 1200 acres with quality and the provenance of beef production paramount to our retail business. We have also invested in a new dry-aged meat storeroom with has recently come into operation.

The cold-stores are also packed with wholesale meat to service orders for hotels and restaurants as far reaching as Ballymena and Carrickfergus.

Our aim is to treat customers with friendliness and respect and take the time to listen to their needs and wished. We hope you visit to enjoy the experience with us soon!
